All About Your Chapter’s Accounts
By now you should have received the log-in information for all of your chapter’s online accounts from CMHQ. Use these accounts to keep your community up-to-date on your chapter's happenings. You are welcome to update your passwords, but please keep your chapter’s official email address ( city@creativemornings.com) as the associated email address. That way we can help you retrieve lost passwords and it makes for smoother transitions in leadership in the future.
We realize that not every social media channel is used in every country; some cities prefer one social media platform over another. With the exception of Flickr, which is required for uploading event photos, feel free to use the platforms that your local community will best respond to.
Here we’ll walk through tips and best practices for using each of your CreativeMornings account.
Gmail
CreativeMornings uses Gmail for all chapter email accounts. Your chapter email address is city@creativemornings.com (such as newyork@creativemornings.com).
The alias email address is cityabbreviation@creativemornings.com (such as NYC@creativemornings.com). Any emails sent to this address will appear automatically in your chapter email inbox.
Read Google’s tutorial on how to set up Gmail on your mobile phone, if you’d like to go that route. You may need this information:
IMAP: imap.google.com
Port: 993
SSL: on
SMTP: smtp.google.com
Port: 465
SSL: on
Tumblr
To update your city page, you will need to use Tumblr. Once you accept the invitation that CMHQ sent to your chapter email address, you can create a username and password. Then, you’ll be able to contribute to your city's Tumblr, which is a group blog. You can also invite other team members to join the Tumblr, as detailed in Tumblr’s FAQ on group blogs. For more information on this read the city page section.
Use Twitter for snappy messages to your community. If you see your account has been locked, you may need to connect your phone number. This should remove any restrictions that Twitter may place on the account.
Flickr
Please have your photographer upload event photos every month after your event — this is a requirement. We use Flickr so that all chapter photos are located in one central place, without file-size restrictions or image compression — just big, beautiful photos. Please share the guide to uploading photos to Flickr with your photographers so they understand the process.
For future reference, once your Flickr account is nearing the 1,000 photos limit for free accounts, contact CMHQ to get an upgrade to a Pro account.
You’re in charge of setting up your own Facebook page. To get started, download branded social icons on the resources page. For inspiration, check out CreativeMornings/London’s Facebook page.
Please make Julie's Facebook account a page admin by following Facebook’s FAQ on managing roles. That way, in the event of a leadership handover, we can easily transfer the page.
< a name="instagram">
Use Instagram for sharing photos, quotes, and Stories. For inspiration, check out the Instagram accounts for CreativeMornings/Brisbane and CreativeMornings/San Diego, and follow CMHQ’s tccounts that highlight CreativeMornings around the world: CM_Universe and CreativeMorning.
Mailchimp
Every chapter gets a free Standard Mailchimp account. Use their valuable tools to send out updates about your upcoming events. New to Mailchimp? Here are handy tips for getting started on Mailchimp, straight from Mailchimp’s help section.
There are two ways for people to subscribe to your newsletter:
- Visitors to CreativeMornings.com can subscribe on every page of the website via pop-ups and buttons throughout site. In each case, visitors can opt to subscribe to either local or global newsletters.
- You can also generate additional subscribers by sharing a sign-up form at events, in emails, or on social media. Here’s the Mailchimp FAQ on how to share your sign-up form.
Mailchimp Templates:
Once you’re logged into your Mailchimp account, you will see that we have created a standard template for you to use. Please use this — it has a custom footer with our Global Partners. Also, once you have your chapter’s Facebook page set up, be sure to update the Facebook icon in the footer of the template with the correct link.
LocaleApp (for website translation)
If English is not your chapter’s language of choice, CMHQ can set you up with LocaleApp, which is our translation tool for all web content. You can use this tool to translate the website into your preferred language. Email community@creativemornings.com for access.
